“Dear Monica

Thank you so much for the opportunity to work with you on this. I was incredibly moved by your story, and believe I don’t say that lightly. More than once you literally had me in tears. It must have taken a lot of strength and a great deal of courage to come forth with this memoir, and I absolutely congratulate you! It’s honest, it’s compelling and draws the reader’s attention to the issues and complexities surrounding domestic violence in such a way that there is none of the usual “blame the victims” attitude possible.
 
More importantly, it’s a necessary book; one that is sure to continue to raise consciousness and awareness of a problem that has persisted for far too long. I applaud you! In fact, I had a hard time trying to find anything wrong with it! I do think you need to add Ian’s sentencing statement and some other facts and figures I’ve indicated, but other than that, the majority of my corrections had more to do with grammar, punctuation and the occasional rewording for clarity.
 
Quite literally one hell of a story, and I’m SO proud of you for telling it!
